Cloud Computing: Quality and Cataloging are Top Challenges When Managing Cloud Data

By Dick Weisinger

Businesses are moving their data to the cloud but are being faced with challenges managing their data once it is there. A report by Forrester on behalf of Capital One found that two huge challenges include data quality and data that is not cataloged or categorized.

Hugo Noreno, editorial director at Forbes, said that “the better the data quality, the more confidence users will have in the outputs they produce, lowering risk in the outcomes and increasing efficiency. “

Capital One told Edward Segal, a senior contributor at Forbes, that “without data cataloging, decision-makers struggle to understand what data they have, how the data is used, and who owns the data.”

The Capital One report found that “decision-makers need to address key challenges to ensure they are getting the most out of their data and can leverage that data at scale, gaining agility, increasing cost efficiency, and making better-informed decisions. Firms that fail to do this will miss the moment and fall behind.”
