Outperform your competition with hybrid data insights

Reliance on data analytics permeates every aspect of your digital enterprise. HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric Software lets you focus on insights to propel your business ahead of the competition.

Enterprises create a ginormous amount of data every year across 14-20 different geographies and locations. Data that they want to leverage to drive innovation, increase revenue, or respond faster to the “next big thing.” Each location is independent of the other, which means any insights are siloed — and siloes introduce latency that potentially reduces the data’s value to your business.

In response, hybrid cloud solutions have been gaining in popularity because they deliver the best outcomes for cost, data placement, workload control, and user experience. The upside is hybrid cloud’s ability to better match the deployment location to workload needs, but it also comes with a downside of increased complexity from:

  • Limited data visibility across the organization
  • Multiple copies of the same data sets stored across multiple locations
  • Need to reformat data so an app using a different protocol can leverage the data
  • Introduction of risk from inconsistent application of security, governance, and management policies across all locations

HPE Ezmeral Software

Today, HPE introduced the next step in the HPE Ezmeral Software platform, designed to help organizations leverage data globally and deploy analytics through a predictable, software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution for hybrid multi-cloud environments.

HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric Software provides an essential unified data layer by federating different data types and formats across hybrid locations to simplify access, analyze, and govern global data. HPE Ezmeral Unified Analytics Software builds on this foundation to empower developers and data analytic professionals with self-service access to a managed and curated set of open-source tools for analytics and AI/ML workloads.

SaaS-based unified data layer

Today HPE announced enhancements to HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric helping organizations access, manage, and govern enterprise data spread across multiple locations and formats. Data fabric technology is not new but as enterprise data continues to be distributed across multiple locations, traditional analytic solutions have contributed little to reducing the complexity faced by data engineering and science teams. That’s because these personas have to be granted access to each location, discover the data available, copy that data, integrate it, and normalize it into a unified data layer. Industry analysts tell us this can take months and frankly by that time any insights are stale.

HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric is different. It combines files, objects, tables, and streaming data into a single logical hybrid data plane that provides at-a-glance visibility and direct access to global data. The agnostic deployment approach of this solution means it can be deployed on-premises, at the edge, in co-location environments, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud PlatformTM providing direct access to all data under HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric’s control.

The secret ingredient to hybrid data plane is a global namespace, which provides a single point of access for users and applications to multiple data fabrics and their associated files configured into volumes, buckets, and topics. While Figure 2 shows three data fabrics, there can be hundreds of data fabrics attached to a single global namespace. Our customers typically use a firewall or network boundary as the criteria for a new data fabric. Yes, this means if you have 12 data centers distributed across North America and Europe, you have 12 data fabrics. It’s the global namespace that stitches them together for efficient communication and data sharing.

Built-in management and security offers precise access control and automated policy management makes it easier than ever to optimize workload placement by performance, data locality, sovereignty, costs, and compliance regulations.

Other enhancements include:

  • SaaS offering, new user interface, and self-service access to data
  • Target agnostic deployment
  • Point and click setup and configuration of buckets, topics, and volumes without any IT involvement
  • Flexibility to store data once, then access it using any industry standard analytic format by multiple users and applications
  • Increased data consistency with a single data source that is free of duplicates
  • Intelligent data movement that synchronizes incremental data updates across all locations reducing cost, latency, and performance issues
  • Advanced features that assure conformity to geo fencing, end-to-end encryption, and compliance to industry and government regulations

A foundational data layer is critical to unlocking your data’s insights through multiple use cases. Here are just two examples how customers are implementing HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric.

Use cases
The value proposition for HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric has resonated with customers for QA analysis in manufacturing, network monitoring in telecommunications, and fraud and risk detection.  Here are just a few examples:

The financial services market is a leading industry for the solution as providers look to digitally transform their services and protect their assets.

"Risk prediction and anomaly detection are critical capabilities to protect our global financial markets. These workloads require massive amounts of data to be ingested at scale. With HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric Software, we have delivered a strategic platform to ingest, store, secure petabytes of financial data and use a subset of it for machine learning." — Arnab Chatterjee, V.P., Global Head Database, Middleware, and Web Engineering, Nomura

A global manufacturer was looking to create a global data highway to improve productivity of their data scientists. By leveraging HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric, open-source tools, and ISVs, this customer achieved their vision to provide data scientists with the ability to automatically scale workloads on demand as well as separate development from infrastructure allowing them to focus on model development instead of infrastructure.

A digital marketing agency needed to provide hundreds of major brands with audience data to enable insight and profitable ad placements. The company wanted to enhance their digital and television advertising, but this required more processing and delivery capabilities than was currently available. Their current analytic tools are deployed on-premises and in the public cloud.

"Alliant’s analytics tools are currently deployed on-premises and in the cloud. HPE Ezmeral Software enables us to scale audience creation and delivery, optimize where the data storage and analysis occurs and reduce capital expenses through a managed services and SaaS approach." —William Adam, CTO, Alliant

Take the next step
Across every industry, the need for data insights to make everyday decisions permeates the modern digital enterprise. Those who lag run the risk of being outperformed by their competitors. Make sure your business is equipped with the insights needed to keep ahead of the pack.
