From Seattle to Silicon Valley to Boston, here are the 10 cities with the fastest-growing tech salaries in 2023.

As more and more tech salaries increase, so too has there been a rise in nontraditional tech hubs in the U.S.

According to Dice’s latest Tech Salary Report, more IT professionals are moving away from tech hubs like California to neighboring states like Arizona, which saw a 20 percent increase in tech salaries last year.

“The data also reveals a trend of organizations prepared to pay for tech professionals with data-related skills to support infrastructure for the storage, transit and analysis of data,” the report stated.

The average tech salary in 2022 was $111,348, up 2.3 percent over 2021, according to the report. But depending on the location, that percentage could have been higher.

For example, Phoenix saw the fastest salary growth in 2022 with a 26.2 percent increase. San Diego, however, saw a 0.3 percent decrease in salaries.

At the state level, Massachusetts holds the top spot in the highest average tech salary with $128,690, followed by Oregon, California, Washington and Connecticut, all with average salaries of $120,000 or above, then New Jersey, Colorado, Virginia, Arizona and Washington, D.C.

At the city level, Tampa, Fla., Portland, Ore., and Charlotte, N.C., all saw double-digit increases in salaries in 2022 at 19 percent, 15.5 percent and 11.1 percent, respectively.

Nontraditional tech hubs like Columbus, Ohio, saw average tech salaries increase by 16 percent year over year. But the top five areas for average tech salaries were Silicon Valley, Boston, Seattle, Portland, Ore.,and New York City, according to the report.

“High tech salaries are certainly no longer limited to the coasts, as all of the top 25 cities for tech compensation boast an average salary over $100,000, and these locations are spread throughout the country,” the report stated. “The average growth in the top 25, however, was 4 percent, given that there were a few declines and many modest year-over-year increases.”

10. Seattle

The average tech salary in Seattle was $129,456 in 2022, up 7.6 percent from 2021.

The average tech salary in Raleigh was $115,204 in 2022, up 9.4 percent from 2021.

The average tech salary in Sacramento was $111,961 in 2022, up 9.7 percent from 2021.
