Success story

Argentina’s Ministry of Health achieves agile infrastructure

Overview

To improve patient experiences with universal healthcare, Argentina’s Ministry of Health built a national digital health network that allows care centers to securely access patient data through standardized integration between providers. Using Red Hat solutions and modern development approaches like DevOps, the Ministry of Health created a new infrastructure that offers the scale and agility to support sharing of medical data for 6 million patients across 24 provinces.

Working with Red Hat means more than just adopting software. They helped our teams develop their skills, as well as learn more about available tools and updates, to make better decisions independently.

Automate medical information management

Argentina’s universal healthcare strategy offers free and accessible public healthcare to all citizens and residents. However, patients often go to one hospital and get tested at another or go between private practices and public hospitals for tests, so patients have to bring hard copies of medical information to each facility. Argentina’s Ministry of Health needed to automate this flow of public health statistics and the management of underlying systems.

Establish flexible, stable infrastructure

Moving beyond its slow legacy solutions and monolithic applications, Argentina’s Ministry of Health built a national digital health network and established a flexible yet stable IT infrastructure based on microservices technology and DevOps. This network would let the Ministry of Health address complexity, data access issues, and performance challenges with existing health systems and manage universal electronic health records with scalable, security-focused technology.

Manage information and volume of data effectively

With a scalable Red Hat technology foundation, the Ministry of Health accommodated and responded quickly to a 1,500% increase in transaction volume in the first month of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Health continues to refine its technology strategy by partnering with Red Hat consultants and a Technical Account Manager. During the next year, the ministry aims to increase registration to more than 15 million patients and continue adding new services and features to its network.
